Friends of Ours is a hyperlocal community-based non-profit that serves the residents of North, Northeast, and inner Southeast Portland, Oregon. Our work is underpinned by our belief in the inherent dignity of all human beings and that everyone deserves food, clothing, and shelter. We provide:
- Trash collection in our neighborhoods. We serve all who reside in our Portland communities by working directly with neighbors who are currently houseless, helping them manage their trash and providing collection services. While we’re out and about, we also help hook people up with needed social services — all while sharing lunch, water, clothing, and compassionate conversation.
- Mediation. We interface between those who are housed and unhoused to try to remove friction and discomfort around parking and trash issues, finding solutions that help everyone feel heard and respected.
- Home and yard maintenance. We support housed residents who struggle with finances, physical disabilities, or mental health issues, offering indoor and outdoor cleanup services, repairs, food boxes, and information about longer-term support.
- Cold-weather welfare checks. Every day that temperatures dip below freezing and snow is forecast, we visit unsheltered people in camps, RVs, and tents, helping to ensure they have handwarmers, gloves, scarves, coats, shoes, and food. We also check on anyone brought to our attention by concerned neighbors.
- Holiday cheer. We assist families who need help with delivering gifts and other treats to their children during the holidays — because all children, no matter their circumstances, deserve to feel nourished, cherished, and hopeful. We share the spirit of the season with folks living in transitional tiny-house villages as well.
- Advocacy. We meet with City council members, Metro Council members, Multnomah County council members, to advocate for our neighbors living on the street.
- We will continue to discuss theories, options and change with our elected officials
- support Safe Rest Villages RV Parks and Tiny house project (Kenton Women Village, St John’s Village, etc)
- Housing Services with support that will help reentry and stabilization plans to make you successful
A big thank you to Dreamboat Salon for there generous matching donation. The Dream Team helped us continue to provide much needed support to our houseless neighbors.
